ASHBURTON Wethers sold well at the weekly stock sale at Ashburton yesterday, out there was less demand for ewes than last week. The yarding was small. Fat ewes in wool sold for 67s Id. and heavy ewes brought from 63s Id to 70s Id. Fat hoggets sold up to 71s Id, and fat shorn wethers to 66s Id. Twenty-four shorn wethers brought from 57s Id to 61s Id. In the store section, ewe hoggets sold for 83s 6d and 74 ewe breeding hoggets reached the top price of 94s for Mr J. G. McFarlane, sen., Alford Forest. Wether hoggets ranged from 46s 6d to 57s Id. PLEASANT POINT “The Press’ Special Service TIMARU, October 6 Forty-five head of fat cattle met a firm demand from butchers and values held very firm. The offering of store cattle was larger than usual. The inquiry was poor and the bulk of the yarding was passed. Four races of fat sheep proved too many for local butchers to absorb and values for shorn wethers eased fully 6s to 8s a head. The inquiry for the large penning of store sheep was not as keen as usual and here also prices tended to ease. Values were:— Fat Sheep.—Wethers, in the wool, best, 80s to 86s Id; medium, 75s to 795; light, 68s to 755; fat wethers, shorn: best, 53s to 56 s Id; medium, 47s to 525; light, 43s Id to 46s lOd. Ewes, in the wool: best, 64s to 70s; medium, 59s to 635; light, 55s to 58s 10s. Ewes, shorn: best, 43s to 47s Id; medium, 39s to 425; light, 35s to 3Bs. Fat Cattle.—Steers: best, £42 to £4B 17s 6d, medium, £36 to £4l; light, £3O to £35; inferior. £23 to £29. Cows: best, £2B to £33 12s 6d; medium, £23 to £27; light, £l7 to £22. Heifers: extra good, £39 to £43 17s 6d; medium, £33 to £35 17s 6d; light, £26 to £32. Store Cattle.—Bulls, £l9 to £23 10s; yearling steers and heifers, £l2 10s to £l4 10s Store Sheep.—Ewe hoggets, in the wool: best. 82s to 90s; medium, 65s to .795. Ewe hoggets, shorn: best, 43s to 50s; others. 21s to 425. Wether hoggets, shorn: best, 40s to 475; medium. 35s to 395; small. 26s to 345. Wether hoggets, in the wool: best, 55s to 61s; medium, 50s to 545; inferior, 43s to 475. Ewes and lambs, all counted, 25s to 455; two and four-tooth shorn wethers, 40s to 47s
