(Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 8.

The United Nations Security Council rejected to-day a Soviet proposal calling for the admission of 14 countries into the United Nations in a package deal. Ohly the Soviet Union and Pakistan voted in favour. The United States. China, Greece, Brazil and Holland voted against, and Britain, Turkey, France and Chile abstained from voting. The United States and het supporters had insisted that each country should be Considered separately on its merits rather than as a package. The Countries up for membership in the proposal were five Soviet satellites —Albania, Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary, and Outer Mongolia—and nine other nations, Ireland, Jordan, Portugal, Finland, AUstf.ia, Italy, CeyiOn, Nepal and Libya. These nine had the backing of the West.
