U.S. ATTITUDE TO REGIME
(Red. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON,. September 8. The State Department said to-day that it remained favourably disposed to the Egyptian Government in spite Of the seizure of power on Sunday by General Naguib. The State Department spokesman. Mr Michael McDermott, said that the department saw fio basic alteration of Egyptian policy in General Naguib’s action. “The programme of the Egyptian Government remains based on principles rather than personalities,” he said.
The department has sent its senior Egyptian expert, Mr Wells Stabler, to Cairo to gain first hand information on the latest political developments.
