NORTHCOTE BUS

Sir,—On Friday, September 5, I left the Midland bus depot for Northcote by bus, leaving at 4.55 p.m. The bus bore the sign, “Kairaki via Belfast.” At the Victoria street stop, among the passengers was a neighbour of mine, who went to the bus behind mine, "Kaiapoi via Belfast,” but was turned down, as I have been in the past, and was directed to the bus I occupied. But when two steps away the door of the bus was shut, although I told the driver there was another passenger. Apparently we Northcote people are supposed to know what bus has been permitted to lift us or else we are left standing. The same inconvenience occurs at the Papanui stop. The sooner the Transport Board returns to us the service we pay to maintain the better.—Yours, etc., NORTHCOTE. September 8. 1952. [When this letter was referred to Midland Motors, Ltd., the manager (Mr J. J. B. Connor) commented as follows: “Only two buses run on this trip and they serve the whole of the Main North road to Kairaki beachDestination sign space is limited and there is some difficulty about indicating all places which are served en route. While we have not had time to investigate the incident, it seems on the face of it to be due to some misunderstanding, and your correspondent mav' be assured that the matter will be taken up and the position corrected where necessary.”]
