TABLE TENNIS IN AUSTRALIA
(Bee. 11.30 p.m.) HOBART. Sept. •. The New Zealand women’s champion, Miss Joyce Williamson, easily won her first round women’s singles match in the Australian table tennii championships to-dav when ahe beat the No. 4 Queensland player, Miss D. Weatherley, 21-8, 21-12. Miss Williamson also won her first round doubles game, partnered by Miss P. Cathcart, of New South Wales. The Australian title-holder, Phil Anderson (Queensland), was soundly beaten 2-0 by a South Australian seeded player. M. Calonius, in the teams’ matches. However. Anderson then beat the South Australian title-holder. V. Laarihg. The teams’ title scores were:—Men: New South Wales beat South Australia. 8-3. Women: Victoria beat West Australia 10-1. New South Wales beat Tasmania 11-0, Queensland beat South Australia 6-5.
