TASMAN CUP GOLF
N.Z. AND AUSTRALIA DRAW (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, September 8. New Zealand and Australian women golfers tied in the Tasman Cup match to-day. The names of both coUntriet •will be inscribed oh the cup, but Australia will retain the cup ..-because of last year's win. The NeW Zealanders to-day were two matches and six holes up after the motning foursomes, but th? Australians rallied to take three of the four singles in the afternoon, the teams finishing each with three matches won and nine holes credit. Miss P. Borthwick (Australia) in her match against MiSs M. Hughes (New Zealand) began by. winhing the first three holes. She was out in 38 and was three up at the ninth. She lost the 315 yards eleventh when Miss Hughes holed a 30-yard approach shot for a birdie three. Against Miss Z. Hudson, Miss M. Bishop was one dowh at the tutu, but won 2 and 1. Mrs S. McCoy was ahead throughout her match against Miss J. Percy. Miss Percy’s shots from the tee Were off the line. The New Zealand women proved too good in the foursomes. Misses Hudson and Blundell defeated Misses Percy and Fletcher 5 and 4. The New Zealanders won the last four holes. Mrs McCoy and Miss Hughes defeated Misses Bishop and Borthwick at the nineteenth. The Australians took the lead at the Sixteenth, but the match was squared at the seventeenth When Miss Borthwick miSsed an 18irich putt. The eighteenth was halved and the New Zealanders won on the nineteenth.
Scores were:— Foutsoffies. —Mrs McCoy ahd Miss Hughes (New Zealand) defeated Misses Bishop and Borthwick at the, nineteenth; Misses Huc’son and Bnindell (New Zealand) defeated Misses Percy and Fletcher 5 and 4. Singles.—Miss Hudson lost to Mitt Bishop 2 and 1; Mrs McCoy defeated Miss Percy 3 ahd 2; Miss Hughes tost to Miss Borthwick 4 and 2; Miss Blundell lost to Miss Wellard 3 and 1.
