Brown played J 1 Australian fifteen which the All Blacks beat at Melbourne !ast year. The Australians are still without the services of their full-back, R. Colbert, and his place in this game will be taken by Barker, who played at inside centre against North Auckland and Auck-

Phipps, the full-back for those two games, will be in his normal place at centre. His partner will be O’Neill, of Quensland, who played on the wing against Auckland. CANTERBURY TEAM AT TIMARU WIN LIKELY AGAINST SOUTH CANTERBURY (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 18. If each team s performance in Its respective game last Saturday can be taken as a, guide, it would seem that CanterPaVf/ s J S? gby representatives will have little difficulty in beating South Canterbury on Wednesday at. Timaru and scoring the first outright win of their southern tour. South Canterbury has played two representative fixtures this seaton and has lost both to teams which were of average standard only. At Fraser Park. Timaru, on Saturday, the home side, though beaten 14-3 by North Otago, played fairly bright and crowd-pleasing Rugbv. But it was hardly the brand of game that would mMkt: the South Canterbury team an efficient unit capable of scoring a number of tries even against a side offering mediocre opposition.

There will, however, be one or two backs the Canterbury men will have to mark closely: in particular, R. Stoddart. a former national junior sprint champion. Compared with last year, Stoddart has improved bevond recognition, and if the tourists’ backs leave any gaps in their line they will find him a most difficult man to stop, and probably impossible to overhaul. E. Heenan, inside back for Mar'st last year, is not available for Wednesday s game, and the five-eighths posiJj° n s,3. wlll filied by N - Rayfield and Sr-J^L BOll - Tb ough lacking in brilliance, b these players are solid and able men. The South Canterbury back-line has not so far functioned happily as a unit. Attacks have lacked precision and an understanding between the players, and in spite the changes in the team, it is unlikely that these faults, .which were so obvious on Saturday, will be corrected bv Wednesday. Only two backs and four forwards of Saturday’s team are included in the side for the match against Canterbury.

. their problems in nicking men to fill the back-lme. th° selectors have yet to choose a pack with the nece»»arv weight and speed. L Grant,.who will be capjun. is still the best line-out forward in South Canterbury, and the Canterbury forwards will find him a formidable opponent. In set scrums. Canterbury, with the heavier nack, should win more than its share of the ball. The South Canterbury team will be as follows:—H. Fairbrother: E. Robins. R. stoddart. M. Harrison; N. Rayfleld, C. Wilson: J Coulter; J. Senior. I. Paterson, J. Brooking; R. Comer. E. Smith, L. A. Grant, B. Fitzgerald; G. Sugrue.
