GLENELG HEALTH CAMP
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS
Donations from the New Brighton Trotting Club and from Mrs Daly (Kaikoura) were gratefully acknowledged at a meeting of the management committee of Glenelg Children’s Health Camp last night. The deputychairman (Dr. E. Douglas Pullon) presided and submitted a report from the finance sub-committee which was adopted. A follow-up report of the children who had been at Glenelg in May, 1951, was submitted by the Department of Health and was considered particularly satisfactory. All the children in the Christchurch area and all but one on the West Coasf had continued in good health. The one exception had gained in weight and had grown, but was reported as being pale. A letter was received from two country girls, sisters, who had been at the camp recently. They thanked the matron for her care of them, sent love and kisses ’’ to members of the staff, said they had gained more weight, and that when they were next in Christchurch they would revisit the camp. “The nicest letter we have ever had,” remarked the chairman.
Miss D. Munday, head mistress at the school, said that the girls at present in camp were diligent and well behaved. Two students were observing at the school and a visitor during the month had been Miss Ruth Trevor, a remedial speech specialist, who told the children about her recent visit to Houston, Texas. The matron (Mrs E. Morrison) gave a good report of the children’s behaviour and said a few had had influenza, but were improving. Mrs E. Friedlander undertook to attend to the staffing of the post office vestibule on the days allotted to the committee for the said of health stamps in October. This had formerly been done by Mrs F. C. Penfold, who is at present in England.
