TRADE WITH NEW CHINA
(Rec, 9 p.m.) HONG KONG, May 11, A Canadian economist, Mr Morris Miller, a representative of a Montreal textile firm, who visited China after attending the International Economic Conference at Moscow, said to-day that the Chinese Communist Government insisted on direct trade with Britain because it wanted to avoid shipping goods through Hong Kong. He said he could not see “why we should create tension by banning trade with China. It would be better for both sides if we carry on business as before.’’ He said he was impressed by the tremendous industrial uplift in China under the Communist Government.
