FLYING SAUCERS REPORTED

OBJECTS MAY HAVE BEEN METEORS

(Rec. 9.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 5. The Commonwealth Astronomer at Mount Stromlo (Dr. R. Woolley) says that objects seen over New South Wales and Victoria on Saturday and Sunday may have been a shower of meteors. Many people have reported seeing what they describe as flying saucers over Sydney and other parts of New South Wales and Victoria on Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Woolley’s assistant (Dr. A. R. Hogg) saw a bright meteor at 5.15 a.m. on Sunday. It was clearly visible to the naked eye as a bright light moving at high speed. A trail, similar to that left by a high-flying aircraft, persisted for 10 minutes.

This type of meteor is rare, and is reported only once every few years, according to the observatory.
