INSPECTION OF SCHOOLS

CHRISTCHURCH VISITS THIS MONTH

The Canterbury Education Board this year instituted a series of inspections designed to ensure that every school under its control is visited it least once annually. So far the tour has been made in South Canterbury, schools from Rangiora to Maungamgnu have been visited, the West Coast was covered last month, t nd this month ths board is concentrating on the schooli of Christchurch. The itinerary is as follows.— Tuesday, May 6: Bamford Street, Woolston, Opawa. Beckenham,, Waltham, Sydeflham. Wednesday, May 7: Somerfleld, West Spreydon. Spreydon, Addington, Wharenui, Ham. Thursday, May I: Riccarton, Fendalton, Wairakei Road, Waimairi, Papanui, Heaton Street, Oecunation Centre.

Monday, May 12: Elmwood, Normal, St. Albans. Shirley, Shirley Burwood. Tuesday, May 13: North Brighton. Brighton Main, Brighton South Aranui Bromley. Linwood Avenue, Linwood North. Wednesday, May 14: Richmond, Phillipstown, Christchurch East, Cerebnl Palsy, Christchurch South Intermediate. Cashmere. Five more of the nine zones hsvi still to be visited.

As many board members as possible attend the inspections, accompanied often by the secretary (Mr L. S. P. Butcher) and always by the building superintendent (Mr A. Cameron). Buildings and grounds are the usual chief features of interest, with special attention to growing accommodation requirements: but the visits also help the board to understand the needs of widely-differing communities.
