ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY

OBJECTS RESTATED A revised statement on the obieety of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand was adopted at a meeting the Court of Directors of the society in Christchurch yesterday.

The new statement says that the society's object is to bestow award) upon all who promptly risk their own lives to save those of their fellow creatures. Five classes of awards are listed.

The statement gives the following u “an indication of cases recognisable by this society for awards:— "All rescues or attempted rescue from drowning, provided the rescue* are accompanied by personal risk. "All cases of bravery in rescuing or attempting to rescue persons from asphyxia in mines, veils, blast f urnaea, or in sewers where foul gas may endanger life: also in rescuing or attempting to rescue persons whom lives may be endangered by firs w any other cases of bravery directed towards the saving of lives of fellow creatures.”

The statement adds that application! for awards will not be recognised if made more than 12 months after tha rescue or attempted rescue has bean made unless the Court of Director) considers that there are special fir, cumstances to justify an exception being made.
