EXPANSION OF HOSPITALS
MINISTER EXAMINES PLANS TWO-DAY INSPECTION TOUR •• A comprehensive survey of hospital facilities in the North Canterbury Hospital Board's area and of plans for expansion is being made by the Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Marshall), who is on his first official visit to Christchurch. Yesterday Mr Marshall discussed with officers of the board plans for rebuilding and modernising parts of the Christchurch Public Hospital and those for the new hospital to be built at Cashmere. Mr Marshall inspected the Christchurch Public Hospital and the nurses’ home in the morning and .was shown the sections which it is intended to have rebuilt. In the afternoon he visited the site for the new hospital at Cashmere, the sanatorium, the Waltham Children's Home, the Essex Maternity Home and the old and new St. Helens Hospitals. This morning the Minister will inspect the chest clinic in Armagh street, the Burwood Hospital and the Jubilee Home. He will meet the works committee of the Canterbury University College Council and a deputation from the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society in the afternoon. to discuss accommodation at the college for the Dominion X-ray and radium laboratory. Later Mr Marshall will visit the offices of the State Advances Corporation and the Department of Health, the Dunlop Rubber Company’s industrial health clinic aiWoolston, and the Glenelg Health Camp. Mr Marshall will, leave Christchurch this evening.
