LADIES’ GUILD MEETS During the two months from December 8 to February 8. 2850 officers and seamen visited the Seamen’s Institute at Lyttelton—an average of about 45 a day; 910 suppers were served and 15 dances were held. These figures were given to members of the Christchurch Ladies’ Guild of the British Sailors' Society at its monthly meeting yesterday. In addition, books and magazines and playing cards were issued to ships and to seamen visiting the institute. Arrangements were made at the meeting for the guild’s annual sale of cakes, produce, jam and sweets, to be held, in Cathedral square during the first week in April, and it was decided to ask all members to contribute stock for the stall. It was also decided to hold the annual meeting during the same week and to launch a drive for mew members. Members o' the committee volunteered to provide afternoon tea at the annual meetings Members undertook to help in thf Tuberculosis Association's appeal thi month. The president (Mrs G. W. C Smithson) presided at the meeting.
