OBITUARY
MR H. H. S. WHITE (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 3. The death occured at Dunedin yes ; terday of Mr Harry Harper Spencer White, at the age of 82. Mr White introduced organised trade unionism to Dunedin when he formed the Dunedin Operative Butchers’ Union m 1901. He practised as an accountant up to six months before his death. He represented the Leith ward on the" City Council from 1907 to 1912, and was also a councillor from 1915 to 1917. A keen Rugby football administrator, Mr White was president of the Otago Rugby .Football Union in 1924. He played cricket for the Grange Club. Mr White was accountant for many members of the hotel trade in Dunedin, and for several years he looked after the finances of the Otago Hotel Employees’ Union. Other interests included membership of the Dunedin Bowling Club and the Normal School Committee. He was also a member of the Masonic craft.
Mr White is survived by his widow, a daughter (Mrs D. H; Slyfield, of Dunedin), and a son (Mr Harper White, of Auckland).
