MR HOLLAND IN PARIS

MEETING WITH NEW FRENCH PREMIER PARIS, Feb. 4. Mr Holland to-day called on the French Prime Minister (Mr Edgar Faure). He also had a meeting with the French Economic Affairs Minister (Mrßuron), who toidhim that France was keenly interested in exporting to New Zealand, Later Mr Holland met a Swedish pulp baper menufarturer, Whb travelled specially to Paris to see him, and discussed the possibility of a Swedish firm supplying equipment for the MurUpara newsprint scheme. Mr Holland dined with Mr Selwyn Lloyd, the leader of the British delegation to the United Nations, and listened to the Political Committee discussing the Korean truce. “I cannot over-emphasise the importance of the personal attendance by a Minister at the General Assembly of the United Nations,” said Mr Holland afterwards. “No report, however full, can convey the atmosphere which means so much. My impression is that this is the third world war I have been to. Actually this one is a battle of words in which no one gets killed.” The Prime Minister conferred with the New Zealand delegation led by Mr J. V. Wilson. He gave a reception at the New Zealand Legation to some 80 New Zealanders. Those present included Mr Lancia!, the French Minister to New Zealand, who is in Paris on leave. “The Legation under Miss Jean MacKenzie is doing splendid work." said Mr Holland. “It is most valuable for New Zealand to be represented on the Continent” < Mr Holland will be in Berlin from February 5 to February 8. and will visit the Ruhr before returning to London on February 9.
