The Minister of Agriculture (Sir Thomas Dugdale) announced m the House of Commons yesterday the Government’s first major step to arrest the decline ih home food production—a grant of £5 ah acre towards ploughing up land under grass for four years or more and sowing it for harvesting th^The e Gov6rnment believed this to be the quickest and most effective way of securing more meat this year, he said. “We must increase our meat production ahd we cannot do this without more feeding-stuffs.” The aim of the subsidy is to produce at least 500,000 tons more animal feeding stuffs this year, an amount which could provide about Sib of pig meat for every person in Britain —about one •and a half ounces a week.
