OMISSION OF NORTHLAND
CLAIMS OF WAITANGI AND WAIPOUA "The Press" Special Service WHANGAREI, January 18. “This must not happen again," said Mr H. W. James, Deputy-Mayor of Whangarei, at a special meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council when the omission of Northland from the Royal tour itinerary was discussed. Mr James said that the local authorities must take concerted action to press Northland’s claims for recognition in future itineraries of distinguished overseas visitors. “There is only one Waitangi, one Bay of Islands, one Waipoua kauri forest,” he added. The council had made representations for the inclusion of Northland in the Royal tour. The Acting-Prime Minister (Mr K. J. Holyoake) replied that these claims were being considered.
