ROYAL TOUR OF NEW ZEALAND
SERVICE BY POLICE . OFFICERS
TWO CHRISTCHURCH MEN SELECTED
Two officers from the Criminal Investigation Branch at the Christchurch Central Police Station have been selected for service during the Royal tour of New Zealand, and one of them will also be on duty during the Royal tour of Australia. Both officers have had all their service in the Police Force in Christchurch. They are:— Senior-Detective J. J. Halcrow, who will be on duty both in Australia and New Zealand, and Detective-Sergeant G. W. Alty. Senior-Detective Halcrow joined the force in Christchurch in 1926 and was transferred to the detective branch, now the C. 1.8., in 1928. He was promoted to detective-sergeant" in 1942 and senior detective in 1948.
Detective-Sergeant Alty joined the force in Christchurch in 1933 and was transferred to the C. 1.8. in 1938. He was promoted to detective-sergeant in 1946.
