MR CHURCHILL’S PLAN FOR TOUR

(Rec. 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 29. Mr Churchill, who will sail for the United States to-morrow for talks with Mr Truman, will remain in control of the Government instead of handing over his powers to a deputy during his absence. The Foreign Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden) will also remain responsible for most of his duties An official announcement said: “During the tour of America Mr Churchill and Mr Eden will be in constant communication with London and a little delegation of duties is required The Marquess of Salisbury will assist at the Foreign Office, and Captain H. F. C. Crookshank, as Leader of the House of Commons will preside over Cabinet. Mr Eden expects to return on January 12 and Mr Churchill about January 20.” Mr Churchill’s decision to remain in control of Britain’s affairs while thousands of miles away from London is without precedent. . r Mr Churchill held a final Cabinet meeting to-day to complete the extensive agenda for the Washington talks.
