ADVERTISING ON BOTTLES
MILK BOARD DEFERS ACTION
“What will they advertise—rum or something like that?” asked Mr LChristie at a meeting of the Gbriatchurch Metropolitan Milk Board yesterday afternoon, when the chairman (Mr W. P. Warner) reported that it was likely that applications would soon be made to the board for permission to advertise on bottles. Mr Warner said the Milk Amendment Aet gave the Government authority to bring down regulations covering advertising on bottles, subject to the advertising being approved by the Central Milk Council, Mr J. Mathison, M.P., said there had been advertising on milk bottles in the United States and Australia for many years. The regulations would lay down very hard and fast rules governing advertising. The Central Milk Council would determine what was the appropriate form of advertising, the area of the bottle to be -covered, and the use of colours.
Mr Warner said that when he had been approached about advertising he had said that it would not be considered until a new bottle-washing machine had been installed. The present bottle washer had had 14 years’ hard work and occasionally caused trouble, but with clear glass the snotter did have a chance of seem.? dirt, The board decided to take no action in the meantime.
