STOCK SALE DAYS AT ASHBURTON
FEDERATED FARMERS OPPOSE CHANGE
The meat and wool section of the Mid-Canterbury Federated Farmers yesterday expressed opposition to any proposals to hold stock sales at Ashburton and Tinwald on Mondays. The sales are at present held on Tuesdays ana members of the meeting felt that if the sales were held on Mondays transport operators, farmers, auctioneers and their staffs would be required to do a considerable amount of work on Sundays. The following resolution was passed: “That we are opposed to Monday sales and prefer to retain Tuesday as the sale date for the Ashburton county, unless the need for a change of day becomes apparent.”
Participation by the public in future dog-weeks, held regularly as a part of the campaign to eliminate hydatids, was also discussed. The section decided to call a public meeting before the next dog-week (March 2 to March 8, 1952) to which all interested organisations would be invited. An address by the medical officer of health in Timaru (Dr. Douglas) would be given at .the meeting.
