TEMPERANCE UNION
PROVINCIAL CONVENTION HELD
The twenty-seventh provincial connention of the Women’s Christian Tem>erance Union was held in the Presbyterian Hall. Waimate, last week with an attendance of 26 delegates from 24 branches. Mrs Dawson, president of South Canterbury executive, presided, and associated with her on the platform were the Mayoress (Mrs Boland), Mrs Clark (president of North Canterbury executive), Mrs Duckett (president. Waimate Women’s Christian Temperance Union), Mrs Adkins and Mrs Dellow (secretaries of the. North and South Canterbury executives). They were all presented with shoulder sprays. The Mayoress welcomed the visitors to Waimate. Mrs Denson and Mrs Clark replied on behalf of those present. ■ The pledge was re-affirmed. North Canterbury reported many activities including the distribution of literature and visiting. It was reported that a Christmas tree for sailors had been arranged and a m'dnieht service was conducted by the officers.
Communion service was conducted by the Rev. M. Griffith and musical and elucutionary items were given by Mrs Joyce, Mrs Bailey, Mrs Horsley. Mrs McKenzie, and Miss Scarlett. Morning and afternoon tea was provided by the Waimate Union, Methodist ladies’ guild, and the Presbyterian ladies’ guild. All officers were re-elected.
