ELECTIONS IN BRITAIN
REPORTED DECISION
BY LABOUR
(Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 1. Mr' Attlee has told kev Labour Party officials in his Walthamstow constituency to be ready for a General Election in October or November, according to the political correspondent of the “People." The correspondent said he concluded that the election date was as good as fixed, after hearing what occurred at a secret meeting between Mr Attlee and his supporters on Friday "'“Mr Attlee did not actually name the day, but told the meeting, ’We must be ready for October or November.’ ” the correspondent said. “Mr Attlee’s visit to Walthamstow itself was an indication that the election is drawing near.” The correspondent said he understood that the main purpose of the visit was to make sure that the Prime Minister would hold the seat—a matter which was causing some concern.
