CHICQUITA BEATEN
MEMSIE STAKES AT CAULFIELD ELLERSLIE WINS (N.Z.P.A .—Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE, September 2. The New Zealander, Ellerslie (Foxbridge—Tamahere) scored a brilliant win over the champion mare, Chicquita, in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday. Owing to the slow pace of the early furlongs, Chicquita was forced to the front and made her run too early. Ellerslie, however, was also troubled, and raced four wide into the straight, with Chicquita moving away in front. The New Zealander then seemed to have no trouble in running Chicquita down. His success is rated as a great tribute to the New Zealand trainer, Ketr Hilton.
