BURWOOD BEATEN BY WAITIKIRI A

Waitikiri A beat Burwood in a playoff in the southern section of the Blank Cup yesterday. The match was drawn, but on a count-back over the holes won, Waitikiri won by 19 holes to 12. Waitikiri A will now play Waitikiri B. winners of the northern section, in the final. The match was played at Russley. The following are the results, with Burwood names mentioned first:—

C. WARD WINS LOTUS TOURNAMENT

Britain's 39-year-old Ryder Cup player, Charlie Ward, played two of the greatest rounds of his career to win the Lotus £l5OO 72-hole tournament to-day with an aggregate of 270 on the Stoneham course. • Southampton. Bobby Locke, last year's winner, was second with 273. Ward had a third round of 65 and a fourth round of 68.
