OILFIELDS IN KUWAIT
RECORD PRODUCTION LAST MONTH
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, August 31. The Anglo-Iranian Oil Company last night announced a record outpu,t in July from the oilfields in Kuwait (Persian Gulf) while the only low return was recorded from Persia as a result of the closure of the Abadan refinery. Kuwait, the "second string” of the Anglo-Iranian Company is jointly owned with the Gulf Oil Corporation of the United States. The July output in Kuwait was a new record of 2,720.500 tons compared with a monthly average of 1,823,000 in the first half of this year. The July output in Persia was only 470.000 tons, compared with 2,504,000 tons in June and a monthly average of 2,633.000 tons on the first five months of this year. Starting from nothing in 1946, Kuwait has developed an output comparable to the best previous levels in Persia. The annual rate of Kuwait’s output last month just topped Persia’s record output figure of last year and has made it the world’s fifth largest oil producer, surpassed only by America, Venezuela, Arabia, and presumably, Russia.
