WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS

Yaldhurst.—There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Yaldhurst branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. A new member was welcomed by Mrs T. A. Crawford, who presided. Invitations to attend their birthday parties were received from the Riccarton and Belfast branches. It was decided to give £3 to the housekeeper fund, £2 to community chest, and to renew the subscription to the Crippled Children Society from the branch's special fund. ComS etition winners were Mesdames Smith, 'avis. Harper, Bash. Marsh, and Aitkens. Darfield.—Mrs F. Cridge presided at a meeting of the Darfield branch of the Women's Division of Federated Fanners. It was reported that £2O had been made in catering for the farmers' school, and a donation of £5 had been received from Federated Farmers. It was decided to give £lO from the takings to the . division’s building fund. Southbrook-Flaxton.—The guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the SouthbrookFlaxton Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was Mrs Frozell, who is a member of the Provincial executive. Mrs Frozell gave an Instructive talk on the housekeeping scheme and the aims and objects of the Women’s Division. Mrs R. Dunlop and Mrs A. Royfee each won a competition during the meeting. Harewood.—Mrs H. G. Broadhurst presided over a large attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Harewood branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Glenroy.—Mrs Gray presided at the monthly meeting of the Glenroy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. 1 A number of garments were handed in for the Red Cross. The hostesses were Mrs Creelman and Miss S. Tilson.

Rolleston.—Mr B. Smythe, of the Adult Education Department, was guest speaker at the August meeting of the Rolleston branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Three new members were welcomed by the president. The monthly competition was won by Mrs R. Hall. Competitions resulted:—large bloom: Miss L. Willetts 1, Mrs E. Lowe 2. Mrs A. Gregg 3. Russell’s Flat.—Mrs Henry gave a demonstration of crochet gloves at the August meeting of the Russell’s Flat branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Collier presided. Greenpark.—Mrs Watson presided at the July meeting of the Greenpark branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, and welcomed Mrs Lancaster (Levin). It was decided to accept the invitation from the Tai Tapu branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers to attend the annual church service at the Lincoln Presbyterian Church. The programme for the coming year was arranged. Competitions resulted as follows: bottle of apricots: Mrs Stalker 1 Mrs Woods 2, Mrs Rickerby 3; article from 1 yard 36in material, Mrs E Watkins; three potatoes, Mrs E. J. Bennett.

Governors Bay-AHandale.—Mrs Lainborn presided at the July meeting of the Governors Bay-Allandale branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers at her home Arrangements for the birthday party to be held at the home of Mrs Tracey were discussed. Mrs Pickup gave another talk on her recent visit overseas.

Kaituna.—Mrs H. A. Nutt presided at the July meeting of the Kaituna branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, held at the home of the Dominion president (Mrs I. L. M. Coop) Miss Betty Coop and Mrs Nutt reported on tne Dominion conference. It was decided to send parcels to a Latvian girl sponsored by the federation, who is in hospital in Germany. Competitions resulted as follows: tomato sauce, Mrs Roy Barclay 1, Mrs N. Gardiner 2; hot water bag, not knitted, Mrs Roy Barclay and Mrs V. Klavius (equal) 1; mantel decoration (not flowers), Mrs Peter de Pass 1, Mrs S E. Patten 2.

Hals well.—There was a record attendance at the July meeting of the Halswell branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Fanners. One new member was welcomed. Mrs Lang presided and gave a resume of business dealt with at the annual conference. Arrangements were made to hold a ball in conjunction with the local branch of Federated Farmers. A donation of £lO was voted to the community chest funds and another of £lO to the housekeeper fund. Competitions resulted as follows:—knitting for Red Cross: Mesdames Robertson, Day, Lang. Marmalade- Mesdames Saunders, Hayes, Hann. Medium bloom: Mesdames Gates, Silvester, Hunt. Small bloom: Mesdames Talbot, Rogers, Smith. Spike or cluster: Mesdames Silvester, Hunt, Rogers. Amuri.—Mrs Gouber presided at the July meeting of the Amuri branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers, and welcomed one new member. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Miss Mona Lake. An interesting demonstration on the use and care of the electric and treadle sewing machines was given by Mr Campbell.. Solos were sung by Mrs J. Draper. Fernside.—Mrs Havill presided at the August meeting of the Femside branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs Havill reported on the Dominion conference held in Christchurch in July. The guest speaker was Mrs Denis Chapman, who gave an account of her trip to Great Britain and the Continent. The hostesses for the afternoon were the mauve group. Competitions resulted as follows:—cluster: Mrs Morris 1, Mrs Havill 2, Mrs W. Smith 3.
