COMPENSATION BY JAPAN
NEW BILL PROVIDES FOR PAYMENTS
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) TOKYO. August 29 The Government to-day announced the terms of a bill providing compensation for Allied propertv losses in Japan to a total of 26.900.000,000 yen (about 75 000.000 dollars). Payment will be made over three years, not exceeding 10,000,000,000 yen any one year. Claims are to be lodged within nine months of the coming into force of the peace treaty and payment is due six months after the claims have been lodged. The payments will be tax free. The Japanese delegation to the San Francisco conference will cite the bill in connexion with Article 15 of the treaty, which leaves blank the date of the bill’s jjssage. It was found impossible to put the bill through the Diet before the San Francisco conference and it is now due to be enacted during th a autumn session.
