N.Z. SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS
ANNUAL BALL
The cleverly worded invitation of the committee of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and the Christchurch Accountant Students' Society, together with the popularity of its members combined to make the branch’s annual ball held at the Winter Garden last evening, an outstanding success. The decorations of spring blossom, greenery and balloons were effective and colourful. The 350 guests greatly appreciated and warmly applauded a floor show in which two unusual items were presented. One was an Eastern ballet and the other a French Can-Can oolka, and both were produced by Mrs Ivy Collins. The specially invited guests included the Prime Minister (Mr Holland) and Mrs Holland, the Minister of Health (Mr J. T. Watts) and Mrs Watts, Dr. A. M. Hartnell (president of the Canterbury division of the British Medical Association) and Mrs Hartnell. Mr H. E. Strickett (president of the New Zealand Society of Accountants) and Mrs Strickett, Dr. H. R. Hulme (rector of Canterbury University College), and Mrs Hulme, Mr C. G. Penlington (president of the Canterbuty District Law Society) and Mrs Penlington. Mr C. S. Bowie (chairman of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants) mid Mrs Bowie, Mr D. Fountain (president of the Canterbury University College Law Students’ Society), the presidents of the South Canterbury and West Coast branches of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, Mr D. S. A. Weir and Mrs Weir, and Mr D. R. J. Weir.
