OTAGO LEADS FROM VICTORIA

Otago University took the lead from Victoria University College at the end of the third day of the annual university tournament, winning the men’s basketball and the table tennis events and drawing with Canterbury University College In the men’s hockey. Otago also came second in the women’s hockey competition and won the small-bore rifle shooting. Victoria and Canterbury are running close for second, Canterbury’s major successes so far being the men’s hockey and cross-country events. Victoria has won the women's hockey and fencing championships. The total of points scored by Auckland, Massey, and Lincoln 18 low. Results were:—
Table Tennis.—Teams’ knock-out, final: Otago, 8 games, 1; Auckland, 4,2. Association Football.—Auckland 1, Lincoln 0; Otago 7, Massey 0; Victoria 1, Canterbury 0. Golf.—University championship, semifinals: R. N. Couper (Otago) beat B. E. Treacy (Auckland), 1 up; L. J. Pointon (Auckland) beat J. P. Andrew (Otago), 4 and 2. Final: Pointon beat Couper, 2 and 1.
Men’s Hockey.—Otago 9, Massey 0; Victoria 2, Auckland 2.
Men’s Basketball 6B. AuckMassey 34, Otago B 29; Otago A 43, Victoria 18; Massey 34, Otago B 29; Otago A 43, Victoria 18; Canterbury 68, Auckland 21.
Women’s Hockey.—Victoria 4, Otago 3; Auckland 2, Canterbury 1. Women's Basketball.—Otago 41, Canterbury 13; Auckland 20, Victoria 15. Shooting.—New Zealand University won a postal shoot against a British universities team by 1587 points to 1562. The New Zealand team's scores were: J. A. Bell (Otago) 200, J. Kynoch (Massey) 200, D Meyers (Massey) 199, R. Oakley (Otago) 198, M. Wolfe (Otago) 198, D. Perry (VicW 19 « l K ’ Fra^r (Auckland) 197. B. Calder (Massey) 197.
