CHANNEL SWIM PRIZE

(Rec. 8 p.m.) CAIRO, August 26. The Egyptian Cabinet to-day decided to award £lOOO (Egyptian)— £1025 sterling—to Mareeh Hassan Hammad, the Egyptian winner of the mass cross-Channel swim on August 16 organised by the London “Daily Mail.”

Two other Egyptian competitors who came third and fourth will get £250 (Egyptian). The Minister of Finance (Fuad Serag el Din Pasha) expressed appreciation of their “commendable attitude” in refusing to accept the prizes offered by the “Daily Mail" because the newspaper criticised Egypt and King Farouk.
