AFRIKA KORPS MEMBERS
Plan For Rally And Reunion (Rec. 7.40 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 28. A report from Bonn says, that a former German Army leader, General Ludwig CruewelL who commanded the Afrika Korps under Field-Marshal Rommel, is planning a rally in the British Zone of Germany to counteract the militant nationalism seen at last month’s gathering of General Ramcke’s “Green Devil’’ paratroops. General Cruewell said that former members of the Afrika Korps wanted to make their rally similar in spirit to the annual British Alamem dinners held in London, as started by Viscount Montgomery. “We believe the Afrika Korps won a reputation, particularly with the British, of having fought cleanly and fairly,’’ said General Cruewell. We will do our best to show the world we are good citizens and good Europeans who are ready to play our part correctly in a democratic state ” He said that Field-Marshal Rommel’s widow and son would attend the
ral General Cruewell. who was captured bv the British in 1942 and spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner, said that he hoped to “take some of the wind out of the sails" of General Ramcke and other leaders of nationalist former servicemen’s movements by setting up an organisation which would win respect in Germany and abroad.
