JAPAN’S FUTURE
GENERAL RIDGWAY CONFIDENT
(Rec. 10 p.m.) TOKYO, August 28. General Ridgway said to-day that he felt complete confidence in the future of Japan as a free society. General Ridgway was speaking at a luncheon meeting of the JapanAmerican Society to honour the Prime Minister (Mr Yoshida) and other members of the Japanese delegation to the San Francisco conference. He praised the Japanese for their “courage. determination, and perseverance.” The United States Ambassador (Mr William Sebald) said he “sensed renewed energy and courage among all circles of Japan—characteristics which
were always part of the Japanese people, but which to-day were directed towards channels ot peace and the improvement of relations with the overwhelming majority of the world’s nations.”
