CONCRETE FOR STATE HOUSES

Sir,—We are State house tenants, paying increased rents, yet we are not allowed concrete paths nor front fences. Three houses let at the same time, eight months ago, have concrete paths and fences. We are informed that shingle paths are our limit and fences to front corners of our houses. We are informed also that cement is only being used for housing, yet the Public Works Department is using several tons for concrete kerbing round our street. Most of us have young children and shingle will ruin our floor coverings, as the mud, etc., around does now. Could the District Housing Supervisor enlighten us for the reason for this.—Yours, etc., DISAPPOINTED TENANT.

August 24, 1951. [“The District Housing Supervisor will not allow the use of cement for concrete paths until the shortage is overcome, said an official of the Government Housing Department when this letter was referred to bim. "The construction of fences is retarded because of the limited number of contractors available.”]
