U.S. FULBRIGHT AWARDS
AMERICANS TO STUDY IN N.Z.
WASHINGTON, August 25. Seven Americans have received Fulbright awards to lecture or conduct research in New Zealand in the coming year. They are:— Mr Olaf Bergelin, associate professor of Chemical engineering at Delaware University, to conduct chemical engineering research at the dominion Physical Laboratory of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Wellington. Mr Howell Cobb, assistant professor of architectural desigh at Kansas State College, to lecture in architecture at Auckland University College. Miss Winifred Fisher, executive director of the New York Adult Education Council, to conduct research in adult education at the University of New Zealand. Mr Robert Lamb, of California University, to lecture in geography at Canterbury University College, Christchurch.
Mr John Miles, associate professor of engineering at California University, to lecture in engineering at Auckland University College. Mr Charles Turner, professor of dairy husbandry at M s-ouri University, to conduct research in animal husbandry at the Department of Agriculture, Ruakura, Mr Glyndon van Deusen, professor of history at Rochester University, to lecture on American history at Otago University.
106 Metres Sprint Record.— MacDonald Bailey. Britain’s outstanding sprinter, to-day equalled the 100 metres world record of 10.2 sec in an athletic meeting at Belgrade between Britain and Jugoslavia. The Official World record is shared by four runners, Jesse Owens, Harold Davis, Barney Ewell and Lloyd Lt Beach.— Belgrade, August 24.
