CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE

ANNUAL MEETING

The fifteenth annual general meeting of the Catholic Women's League was held at “Maryknoll” where the president (Mrs F. C. Delany) presided, and welcomed Bishop Joyce and Bithop O'Neil. A short programme of songs and vocal duets was presented bv Mrs Ann Rennie and Mr Colin Campbell, with Mrs Campbell as accompanist. , , 4 The annual report and balance sheet showed that the league had had another successful year. Conveners of the sewing, mission, carmel, gardening and kitchen circles, the homemakers* group and save the children circle submitted reports. Mrs Delany thanked the officers, council and members for their co-operation during the year. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: president, Mrs F. C. Delany; vice-presidents, Mrs T. Aspell, Miss H. Nottingham, Mrs P. Lattimore, Mrs W. Amos: councillors, Misses A. Buckley, K. Cotter, L. Donohue, M. Hayward, Mesdames P. Hendren, E. Hooper, J. C. Mullins, S. McAuley, B. O. Welsh, H. L. Willcox; treasurer. Miss A. V. Berrett. After the election of officers Bishop Joyce thanked the members of the league for their loyal co-operation in the work for the salvation of souls. He thanked the Rev. Father Heagney. S.M., chaplain to the league, the Rev. Father Perry, S. J., chaplain to the group, and other clergy who had helped during the year. He announced that he had appointed the Rev. Father W. O’Mahoney chaplain to the league for the coming year. Bishop Joyce expressed appreciation of the service of Mrs F. Dobbs, formerly secretary-treasurer of the league, and of Miss K. O’Connor, Dominion president. He congratulated the conveners of circles on the good work being done, particularly for the foreign missions. Bishop Joyce urged members to make a special effort to complete the minor seminary bursary, and to assist the major seminary at Mosgiel in every possible way. It was announced that a new circle to be known as the “quest” circle would commence activities soon. This circle will interest itself in making a review of what the Catholic Church is doing in raising the status of women in undeveloped areas, and will also take under its care women- imtaiigranta. Bishop O’Neil added his congratulations and good wishes to the league.
