Miss Dorset was the last of the daughters of Mr William Dorset, and was a niece of Dr. Dorset, a medical man who came out to New Zealand in the service of the New Zealand Company. It was after him that Fort Dorset at Seatoun was named. A brother of Miss Dorset was Mr Arthur Dorset, for more than 25 years secretary of the Wellington Education Board.
