PROPOSED CASEIN FACTORY
DRAINAGE x FACULTIES NOT AVAILABLE
The Christchurch Drainage Board M to inform the Mark 'ing Department that there are not s&aahle drainagj facilities near t.hb <? factory at Riccarton to the irom a casein factory.-A recommendation to this effect from the works corfo mittee was approved by the board gv its meeting last evening. "The committee has furthsr examined the request to the Marketing Department that a portion of the dehydration factory at Riccarton shouldbe leased for the manufacture w, casein,” the report said. "The department, before continuing negotiation*, hag asked whether the board would allow the effluent from the process to discharge into the drains in the vicifi- ’ ity. “From information before the committee it is apparent that the effluent from this process is quite unsuitable for discharge into an open drain in a thickly populated area. The sewerage system in this locality, as is well known, is overloaded, and this, too, cannot therefore be m’de available to take this trade waste."
