LORD MAYOR OF LONDON
RECEPTION AT CIVIC THEATRE
A civic reception in Christchurch in honour of the Lord Mayor of London (Sir Denys Lowson) and Lady Lowson will be held in the Civic Theatre at noon on Friday, instead of in the City Council Chambers. Sir Denys Lowson, who is the first Lord Mayor of London -to visit New Zealand during his one-year term of office, will arrive with Lady Lowson and his official party at the Christchurch International Airport, Harewood, at 4.5 p.m. to-morrow. After the civic reception on Friday, Sir Denys Lowson and Lady Lowson will be entertained at lunch at the Sign of the Takahe. As Sir Denys Lowson Wishes to see a Canterbury farm, arrangements have been made for him to visit the Darfield district and inspect Mr R. S. Gunn’s property at Racecourse Hill on Friday afternoon. Mr Gunn is a wheatgrower and sheepfarmer, and runs studs of Border Leicester and Southdown sheep. Sir Denys Lowson and Lady Lowson are accompanied by the two Sheriffs of London (Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. Cullum Welch and Mr Percy T. Lovely), the Lord Mayor's Sword Bearer (Mr William Boston), and two lootmen. In London the two footmen attending the party always wait on.the Lord Mayor when he is at dinner or banquet. The same procedure has applied so far in the North Island and in Australia, where the party were the guests of the Commonwealth Government for the Commonwealth Jubilee.
