JAPANESE PEACE TREATY

Korean Truce Will Not Delay Signing (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. July 4. Britain and the United States were determined that the truce negotiations in Korea should not delay the conclusion of the Japanese peace treaty, says the “Yorkshire Post? It had now been agreed that the treaty should be signed in mid-Sep-tember. An announcement to this effect would be made as soon as all the nations who fought against Japan have had an opportunity to consider the draft treaty. Any peace conference which will be convened—and such a gathering will be a formality—is expected to be held in Washington. The Russians will be invited to attend to sign the treaty, but it is not expected that they will do so. Some expert observers of the Far Eastern situation believe that Russian and Chinese moves to secure a cease fire in Korea are prompted by a desire to delay the treaty. If that is the intention it will certainly fail badly, adds the newspaper.
