The Minister of Customs (Mr C. M. Bowden), who has been on a supply mission to the United States and the United Kingdom, is expected back in Wellington to morrow morning. He has reached Singapore and i» scheduled to leave Sydney for Wellington to-night.—(P.A.) Mr R. F. Black, formerly assistant chief mechanical engineer in the New Zealand Railways Department, has been appointed chief mechanical engineer, in place of Mr J. Binsted. who retired this week after 40 years’ service. Mr C. T. Bishop succeeds Mr Black as assistant chief mechanical engineer.—(P.A.) Mr E. C. Borradaile, who has been appointed manager-sderetary of the. Christchurch Golf Club, has arrived in Christchurch and has taken oVefi his duties. Mr H. C. R. Withell was elect*® president of the Canterbury Progress League at the annual meeting of the) league yesterday. Mr W. S. Mac Gi- 1 bon was elected vice-president. Mr James Macandrew White (honorary secretary) and Mr John Aj Veitch (president) were unanimously re-elected at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Superannuitants’ Association.
