WAIKATO MINE WORKERS
OFFICIAL END OF STRIKE
COLLIERIES RESUMING PRODUCTION (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 4. The Waikato underground mine workers’ strike has officially ended. Work was resumed to-day at the Renown mine, and about 130 tons of coal was produced. The Pukemiro, Alison, and Wilton miners Will start to-morrow, and those at Rotowaro and Glen Afton on Monday. A pithead meeting of the Macdonald Mine Workers’ Union will be held tomorrow to discuss a return to work. It is expected that the men will resume on Monday. A declaration lifting the "black” ban on owners, managers, staff men, and all mine and open-cast workers, as demanded by clause 1 of the conditions laid down by the Minister of Mines (Mr W. Sullivan), was signed by representatives of the Renown, Alison, and Rotowaro unions. The Pukemiro and Wilton unions sent letters to the management, in accordance with the conditions. Representatives of the Glen Afton Union will sign a declaration at a meeting to-morrow morning, and the men at tie Macdonald mine are expected to do likewise.
