CITY’S ESTIMATES

Sir, —In “The Press” this morning there appears the City Council’s main votes in estimates. Principal votes approved in the estimates contain grants to the Canterbury Progress League £225, Workers’ Educational Association £lOO, Civic Music Council £375, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals £5OO, Repertory Society £2OO. As a ratepayer I think many will agree with me in asking why spend our rate money on the above items when so many public work jobs, fat more important, are left undone by the council?—Yours, etc., RATEPAYER. July 4, 1951.
