YOUNG MAN KILLED CAR STRIKES BRIDGE IN GRETA CUTTING A young man was killed when the car he was driving hit a bridge in the Greta cutting, about 14 miles south of Cheviot, early yesterday morning. The accident occurred when Mr Elliott was returning from Christchurch, and it was discovered by Messrs Low and Anderson, of the Scargill Transport Company, about 8 o’clock yesterday morning. An inquest will be held at Cheviot to-day. Mr Elliott was a prominent member of the Cheviot Young Farmers’ Club, and last year he was one of the finalists in the Young Farmers’ Dominion leadership contest. TRUCK LEAVES ROAD TWO MEN INJURED (New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, May 1, Two men had an extraordinary escape from death last night when the light truck in which they were travelling side-slipped into a watertab'e and fell down a bank, turning over nine times. A Ministry of Works truck driven by Charles Harrison, aged 37. with whom Kore Dews, aged 21. was trave.ling, went off the road about four miles from the main Taupo highway turnoff on the Orakei-Korako road, which had Seen recently graded. In attempting to negotiate heaped metal the driver was unable to keep his course. Mr Dews went with the vehicle about two-thirds of its descent, and Mr Harrison stayed in the cab. Mr Dews, who is single, has a possible. fracture of the spine, and Mr Harrison, a married man, has head injuries and fractured ribs. COLLISION WITH BUS DRIVER OF CAR SERIOUSLY INJURED (New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, May 1. The driver of a light car was seriously injured when the car collided with a bus last evening near th** Waina State mill. He is Frederick Archdall. a married man. aged 50. He was admitted to the Rotorua Hospital with severe shock and abrasions and possible internal injuries. His condition to-day was reported to be seriotis. BUSHMAN DIES FROM INJURIES (N-w Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 1. A young man suffered injuries from which he later died when he was crushed by a log at Wairapukao in the Kaingaroa forest, this afternoon. He was: Michael Wihare, aged about 21, a bushman of Murupara. Mr Wihare was one of a party engaged in stacking logs. A police party '-rz-ivth* tho hod” tn Rotorua.
