CHARGE dr ATTEMPTED murder Andrew Purdie, a labourer, aged 31 (Mr ’• Meclehanu), appeared on a charge of tempting to murder Stanley Watts on ..1 14, 1951, at cbrlstehurch. At the request of Detective-Sergeant 1. C. Urquhart, Ptirdle was remanded to pear on May 7. . SHIP DESERTION Glyn Hook, of England, a ship’s firenan, aged 22, was charged with deserting from the British ship Waimana on February 2, 1951, at Lyttelton, having signed on articles in a united Kingdom port. "In spite of the stringency of the new law no les* than seven of the members of the crew deserted from this ship," said Mr R. W. Edeley, who appeared for the Shaw Savin and Albion Shipping Company. Hook, who pleaded guilty, was ordered to be detained for one month under the terms of Section 132 of the Shipping and Seamen* Act, 1908, as amended last year. REMANDED Norman John Fisher, a truck driver, aged 35 (Mr E. M. Hay), appeared on a charge that, being the driver of a motorcar on the Yaldhurat road on April 21. he failed to stop after an accident and render all practicable assistance to John Cyril Thomas Ba Hoch. Fisher was remanded by consent to appear on May 21. Bail was renewed on the same, terms Ss before. DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR On a charge of behaving in a disorderly manner In Kilmore street on April 28, Thomas Robert Alllnghim, a machinist. aged 22, was fined £2. Senior-Sergeant A. E. kearton said accused had been seen acting in an offensive manner to another person outside the Caledonian Hall and had admitted that he had previously been fighting with him.
