PLUMBERS’ CHARGES
Sir, —Could you possibly tell me whether the Price Tribunal controls plumbers’ charges. Recently I had a small job done by our local plumber, and was astounded on receiving the account, which seems to be out of all proportion, for so small a job, especially as the materials, such as flashings, were not supplied by the plumber. If these tradesmen are permitted to charge just what they like, then I would say, “Let the leaks leak.”— Yours, etc., , DRIP - April 4, 1951.
[“ln June, 1950, plumbers’ charges were exempted from Part 3 of the Control of Prices Act,” said the district officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce (Mr H. F. Larsen) when this letter was referred to him* “They are still subject to the profiteering provisions under the act, and if the correspondent refers the matter to 'he Price Control Division it will be investigated.”]
