AUSTRALIAN BROAD JUMPER

MISS JUDY CANTY’S FUTURE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 15. Miss Judy Canty, the Australian and Olympic Games broad jumper, arrived in Auckland from Dunedin yesterday and left by air for Sydney this morning. Miss Canty, who tore a ligament at the back of her knee while competing at Oamaru, is still moving about on crutches. Her leg is not expected to be out of plaster for about another six weeks.

Miss Canty is most anxious to be fit again to compete in the Australian track and field trials next January with a view to gaining selection for the Olympic Games in Helsinki next year. Mr J. Bellwood, the well known New Zealand coach, has offered to train her for six months. Although Miss Canty would like to return to the Dominion, everything will depend on her recovery from her injury.
