GROCERY PRICES RISE
FURTHER INCREASES
PREDICTED
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, April 18. Housewives would find that when the next ration period began on April 22, more than 300 grocery items would be dearer than they were at the start of the present period on March 25, says the “Daily Telegraph.” "These price increases are independent of the Budget and Mr Gtotakell’s decision to retain food subsidies at the present level—a decision which means a continuation of the'rise in the price of most basic foodstuffs. "Meat, eggs, and milk will all probably become dearer. Within the last seven days dozens of grocery items have risen in price, including cereals, flour, bread, soft drinks, honey, curqy and custard powders, starch, and macaroni. On Sunday, too, the top price of higher quality biscuits soid by weight will be increased from M 6d to 4s 6d per lb.”
