PEACE CAMPAIGN

Sir, —Replying to “Ex-Lay Reader” and "Peace,” when men of fine character and intellect controlled the destinies of the Church they understood and sympathised with human weaknesses but made a clear distinction between right and wrong, and would have scorned any suggestion of compromise with evil for the sake of a peace which could, at best, be only temporary. Now that the Church lacks leadership and drifts without direction, any minister can achieve notoriety by raising hopes of peace through appeasement of the enemies of religion, while faint-hearted Christians snatch eagerly at straws in these troublous times.—Yours, etc., C. of E. April 12, 1951.
